Obituary for Harriet Mae Mayasich (Stanton)

Harriet Mae Mayasich (Stanton)
92, of Arden Hills, MN

Passed away on August 2, 2015 at Johanna Shores surrounded by her family. She was a devoted Catholic and lived out her faith as a loving wife and caring mother. Harriet was a lover of music, an avid reader, and a master at needlepoint. In her later years her pastimes included playing cards with her husband Bernie, cheering for the Minnesota Twins, and putting together jigsaw puzzles.
She was born on April 30, 1923, in Mankato, MN to Edwin and Emily (Townsend) Stanton. She was a graduate of Good Counsel Academy Catholic High School and attended nursing school after graduation. In 1944, she joined the U.S. Navy serving as a Pharmacist's Mate at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Seattle, WA during World War II. She also served in the U.S. Naval Reserves and was Honorably Discharged in 1949. Harriet moved with her family to Virginia, MN where she met her husband, Bernard Mayasich. They were married on August 6, 1955 and raised their family in Eveleth, MN until moving to Shoreview, MN in 1993. Harriet worked for Montgomery Ward as a bookkeeper, taught piano lessons from her home for many years, and was the secretary for the local KSKJ lodge in Eveleth. She had a beautiful singing voice and was a member of the Resurrection Church choir in Eveleth, MN where she practiced her strong Catholic faith. Her love of music was passed on to many piano students and her needlepoint pictures grace many family homes. Harriet was a 25 year cancer survivor and lived her life with courage and grace.
Harriet is survived her loving husband of 60 years, Bernard Mayasich; children, Bernie (Gail), and Janet (Louis); five grandchildren, Nicole, Michael, Emily, Luke and Aaron and two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Anna.
Harriet is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Mary Ann Carlson (Robert).
The family would like to thank the staff of Johanna Shores and Optage Hospice for the wonderful care she received. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM on August 7, 2015 at St. John's Catholic Church of Little Canada with visitation one hour prior to the mass. Interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN at a later date.
