Obituary for John C. McLean

John C. McLean
Was the devoted husband of his wife, Gloria (Hansen) Mclean who preceded him in 1999. John was a loving father to Linda Duren who just passed away in April, and his sons John McLean (Deanne) and Jeff McLean (Margaret). He is lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Mike Lenhart (Annie), Sara Haglund (Clay), Ryan McLean, Katie McLean and Drew McLean along with five great grand children. John was born in Elgin, IL to parents Eleanor and Elmer McLean. He was a proud WWII Veteran and served as a U.S. Navy Pilot. While at Great Lakes Naval Base, he met a beautiful Navy Wave named Gloria who later became his wife. John attended Northwestern University in Evanston, IL and graduated from Metro State University. An avid boater, John loved raising his family on Otter Lake. He became a City Councilman for Lino Lakes and served on the Planning and Zoning Board to help protect and preserve thousands of acres for public access. After 20 years at Thermo King, he retired as a Systems Engineer working on high profile projects like the Bart Transit System in San Francisco and creating Thermo King's state-of-the-art distribution center. John was also active in the community and was a 67-year member of the Garnet Lodge of the Masons and a long time member of the White Bear Lake Lions Club. After retirement, John spent many hours golfing at Chomonix Golf Course and working part time as a course ranger. John reveled in his Scottish heritage and spoke frequently of his trip to the McLean Castle on the ancestral island of Mull in Scotland.

Memorial service will be held on Thursday, (6/16) at St. John in the Wilderness Episcopal Church, 2175 1st St., White Bear Lake at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service. A reception will follow the service at the church. Private family interment will follow.
