It is with sadness the family announces the death of Karen Shea (nee Nelson) on April 3, 2017, due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease. Karen was born in Willmar, MN and grew up on the family farm. The youngest of 7 children, she was an energetic crafter and loved her many dogs, who were show and agility trained. Always proud of her Swedish heritage, Karen was a hosta and garden expert at her country home, a BSF attendee and a Quest 180 leader. Karen participated in Redeemer’s Thursday night Al Anon group, where she made lifelong friendships. She was committed to God and her Christian faith, and was an active member at Eagle Brook Church. Preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her parents; four sisters and two brothers; and one niece and nephew. Karen is survived by her husband’s children, Darlene (Gregg), Mike (Karen), Theresa (Tim), and Katy (Dave), 10 grandchildren, and 4 nieces and 2 nephews who considered her not only their aunt, but a “big sister”. A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held at 11 AM Friday, May 5th, 2017 at the HONSA FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 2460 East County Road E, WBL. Visitation at 10 AM and reception to follow service. Private burial will take place at Withrow Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or charity of your choice.
