Obituary for Donald Richard Skaar

Donald R. Skaar Age 89, of North Oaks, formerly of White Bear Lake was born, February 21, 1928, in Cylinder Iowa and spent his childhood on a family farm in Gaza Iowa. He graduated from Luther College with Chemistry degree and began a teaching career. He was drafted into service during the Korean War as an artillery officer soon after this career began. After completion of military service he continued his career in Lake Mills Minnesota where he met and married Elaine Wessels – his wife for 62 years. He brought his family to White Bear Lake Minnesota as a founding member of the Lakewood Community College (Century College) staff. After many years as a Physics professor at Lakewood he retired in 1992 and enjoyed several happy years with family, a lake home, and travel. Survived by loving wife of 62 years, Elaine; children, Rebecca Garey, Sara, and Eric (Gail Ethier); grandchildren, Tasha (Andrew Bingham), Erin and Calder; great-grandchildren, Connor and Alivia. Memorial Service 11 AM Saturday, April 29 at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, 900 Stillwater Road, Mahtomedi. Visitation one hour before service at church. Memorials preferred to St. Andrew’s Resource Center.
