Obituary for Gerald Frederick Behm

Gerald Frederick Behm
Behm, Gerald F.
Age 83
Of Maplewood
Slipped away peacefully on May 8, 2017, surrounded by loving family. He was born and raised in Missouri Valley, IA, the youngest of 7 siblings and a twin, to Henry and Hazel (McManimie) Behm. At the age of 14 Gerry’s family moved to town when his father retired from farming. He attended St. Patrick’s Catholic School and Missouri Valley High School where he excelled in football, basketball, baseball and track; earning All - Southwest Iowa title in basketball twice. It was in that small town community where he made many lifelong friends. He then served two years in the US Army overseas in Germany. Gerry earned his Bachelors at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, during which he married the love of his life, Lois. They were married December 27, 1958 and lived in Iowa City and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and finally landing in Inver Grove Heights, MN where they lovingly raised their three children Dennis, Alan and Patricia, eventually moving to Maplewood, MN. Gerry was employed by the state of Minnesota in a supervisory position for 30 years. He was an accomplished woodworker, home re-modeler, tennis player, bowler, Jr. bowling coach, and sports loving family man. Gerry was a quiet man with a dry sense of humor. He loved music, dancing, and learning about people. Gerry adored all 7 of his grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren and lived to make them laugh and see their smiles.

Gerry will be greeted by parents and 6 siblings and sadly missed by wife Lois of 58 years; children, Dennis (Barb) of Cedar, MN, Alan (Becky) of Lowry, MN, Patty (Jerry) Bunton, of Menomonie, WI; grandchildren, Carrie (Trevor) Mattson, Scott (Suky), Angela (Chad) Dick, Carl (Shelby) Genz, Alex (Kelli) Genz, Kristi (Sammie) Bunton, Aaron Bunton; great grandchildren, Josh, Andy, Adam, Emily, Maddie, Avery, and Mason; brother, Robert (Cora) of Guadalajara, MX; twin, Larry (Mary Ann) of Fallbrook, CA; many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, May 15, 2017 at 11:00 AM at ST. PETER’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2600 Margaret St. N, North St. Paul. The family will receive friends from 10 AM until the 11 AM Mass.
