Obituary for Norman Gordon Lyall

Norman Gordon Lyall
Norman “Scotty” Lyall
December 14, 1926 – June 25, 2017
Age 90 of Lake Elmo
He will be remembered by family and friends for his 35 years working for 3M in sales management, as “Mr. Fixit,” and his reaching out to help others through frequent blood donations, Lions Salvation Army Bell ringing, and SCORE. Scotty was a WWII Navy Veteran serving on a ship in the South Pacific. After the war he married his wife of 66 years, Evelyn, who preceded him in death in 2014. Scotty was born in Detroit, Michigan to Edith and Gordon Lyall, attended school in Michigan and worked for Ford Motor Company and an insurance company before joining 3M in 1950. He transferred from Michigan to Minnesota in 1956. After retirement from 3M in 1985, Scotty became known as the “Docks” salesman, having his own distributorship selling docks and marine equipment throughout the Twin Cities area. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. In his spare time, he took care of his lake home and built furniture. Scotty loved snow skiing and travel. He will be remembered at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church for his involvement in many programs including making early morning coffee, in his 80’s, for Men’s Bible Study.
Left to cherish Scotty’s memory are his son, Kim Lyall (Diane), of White Bear Lake; his daughter, Joy Symes (Gary) of Boulder, CO; grandson, Andrew Lyall (Jessica) of North Branch; great-granddaughters, Blair and Isla; granddaughter, Kelly Lyall, of Robbinsdale; granddaughter, Heather Samuelson (Andrew) of Blaine; great-grandsons, Logan and Brayden; grandson, Brett Symes (Meghan) of Highlands Ranch, CO; great-granddaughters, Avery and Julia. A Celebration of Life will be held at ST. ANDREW'S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 900 Stillwater Road, Mahtomedi on Friday, June 30, 2017 at 12:00 Noon with visitation at 11:30 AM . Private interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Salvation Army or St. Andrew's Lutheran Church.
