Obituary for Taddese "Gabe" Ghebremeschel

Ghebremeschel, Taddese “Gabe”
Age 77, of White Bear Lake, MN Formerly of Washington DC
Passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on September 19, 2018 in White Bear Lake, MN. Preceded in death by parents Ghebremeskel and Medhin; wife Joan; son-in-law Scott; brothers, Andemariam, Shiferau; and sisters, Elsabet, Ezgaharia, Nighisti, Tsegeweni, and Zufan. Survived by sister, Rosina; and brothers, Kidanemariam, Teferi, and Tesfamariam; daughter Mishele Katzman and grandson Tyler; step-sons Arthur and Jon; (8) grandchildren; (3) great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Gabe was born May 13, 1941 in the town of Dekemhare, Eritrea. A retired Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army, Gabe immigrated to this country at age 18 and enlisted in the Army soon after. He served 1 tour of duty in Vietnam, 2 tours at the Pentagon, and tours in Alaska, Hawaii, and Germany. During his 27-year career with the Army, his final tour was White House Support in Washington DC where he served under three presidents. This would often involve driving various White House Staff, foreign dignitaries, and famous actors/actresses. He had countless stories to tell and enjoyed sharing with anyone who would listen. A two-time recipient of the Presidential Service Award, as well as receiving an Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, and the Meritorious Service Medal. It was during this time that he also owned a successful Graphic and Design Company. His love for his family always took precedence. He also enjoyed his many friends, playing “the ponies”, our dogs, traveling, and talking politics. Truly a larger than life person who through his accomplishments left this Earth a better place. We will miss your smile, your humor, your compassion, your love. With Joan at your side, may you finally be at peace.
