Died peacefully with family by her side on January 16, 2016. Preceded in death by her husband, Roger Abler, parents, Norbert and Eleanor Thoennes, sisters, Mary Ellen and Kathleen. Survived by her children: Dave (Cathy Kassab) Abler, Rose (Robert) Manguso, Marjorie (Brian) Schmit, Mary Jo (Felicia) Abler, Bill (Diana) Abler, Jean (Neil) Kelly and grandchildren: Christina Spelman, Elizabeth Manguso, Jacob Schmit, Lance, Luke and Lauren Abler, and Nora and Hailey Kelly; siblings, Eileen (Romie) Hagel, John (Vicki) Thoennes, Joanne (Stuart) MacDonald, Barb Goben and loving extended family. Margaret grew up in St. Paul as the oldest of seven children. She graduated from the College of St. Catherine with a degree in Library Science and a minor in French and began her career at College of St. Thomas library. Margaret was a resident of White Bear Lake and member of St. Pius X Church for over 50 years. While raising six children, Margaret was active in the La Leche League and school activities, completing her career as the St. Pius X school librarian. After Roger retired from 3M, they enjoyed performing with the Silver Harmony Singers and traveling to the Holy Land and Europe. Margaret volunteered her time helping with weekly Mass at White Bear Care Center. After Roger passed in 2001, Margaret continued to host many family gatherings and travel across the US, visiting her children and grandchildren. Margaret enjoyed the fellowship of her neighbors and friends, especially comfort and prayers with her Rosary group. Margaret celebrated her 83rd birthday as a #1 Minnesota Twins Fan. Margaret and her children are grateful for the loving care and support of family, friends and the staff at Ecumen Seasons at Maplewood. Mass of Christian Burial Saturday at 11:00 AM at ST. PIUS X CHURCH, 3878 Highland Avenue, WBL. Visitation will be held Friday 4-7 PM, with a Parish Vigil Service at 7 PM, at HONSA FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 2460 East County Road E, WBL., and one hour before Mass at Church. Memorials can be made to the White Bear Food Shelf.
