Obituary

Mary Claire Ryan
Age 91
of Maplewood, MN
Passed away peacefully Sunday, July 19, 2020 from complications of Alzheimer’s. Born and raised in Saint Paul, MN.

Mary Claire married the love of her life, John Ryan, in 1950 and together enjoyed raising their eight children in White Bear Lake. Together they instilled values of faith, gratitude, service to others, social justice, humor, and hard work in their children and grandchildren.

Mary Claire was preceded in death by her husband John; son James; grandson Jesse Ryan; parents Greg and Evelyn Hagan; brothers Robert and Thomas Hagan; and many other relatives and friends.

Survived by children, Jeffrey (Wendy), Stephen (Lou Anne), David (Cindy), Mark (Karen), Claire (John) Hennessey, Sarah (John) Adkins, Kathryn (Steve) Mitchell, and daughter-in-law Janice; 18 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

A heartfelt thank you to the wonderful memory care aides - too many to name - and others that provided loving care and kindness for more than nine years at Ecumen Seasons at Maplewood.

The family will have a private Funeral Mass and internment on Friday, July 31, 2020. A video of the service will be available at www.honsafamilyfuneral.com a few days after the service.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Sharing and Caring Hands (sharingandcaringhands.org), Union Gospel Mission (ugmtc.org), Little Sisters of the Poor (littlesistersofthepoor.org), Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org), or a cause of your choice in memory and honor of Mary Claire.

The Ryan family thanks you for your friendship and continued love and support. We regret not being able to share this time with you in person.

Mary Claire was an unbelievable person. She was so kind and loving towards me when I came along after she already had 6 children to occupy her time and me in my foolish youth must have driven her crazy!! John was right there beside her in accepting Sue! They were there for me when Tom died and then once again in accepting of my present husband Jim. Jim and I had so many wonderful memories of time with Mary & John. I will never forget the drive to visit Jeff and Wendy in their Hay Home, the stop for doughnuts a must when you traveled with them. How fortunate I am to be an in-law of such a caring giving , loving family. With love and prayers, Aunt Sue and Jim

In the early 1980's your parents helped with the resettlement of several Vietnamese refugee families through the Guardian Angels' Matthew 25 program. Every time I drive through Royals Oaks I think of MaryClaire and John. They left you, your children and grandchildren, a legacy of selfless giving and concern for others. Your Dad taught Chinh to drive so he could get his first job cleaning the floors at Long Cadillac! Now his 4 sons are all college graduates! Your folks were simply a wonderful couple who did what they could to make this a better world. They are remembered. God's blessings and peace be with you. Our deepest sympathy. Carl and Judy Scheider
