Charles R. Shellenberger, age 93, of Mahtomedi, passed away January 6, 2019. Born in New Rockford, North Dakota on March 7, 1925. Preceded in death by first wife, Marian Shellenberger, his parents, Alfred and Marguerite Shellenberger, sisters Mary Jean Dolence and Sarah Shellenberger. Survived by his wife, Clare Hibbard, children Nancy Shellenberger Olsen (Allen), David Shellenberger (Roberta) and Jeffry Shellenberger (Peggy), grandchildren Zach Olsen (Kelly), Ruth Ollanketo (Trevor Dennison), Sena Shellenberger, great-grandchildren, Niklas, Brooklynn, Emmett, and Finn. Two days after graduating from high school Charles went into the military where he served in the Navy. He served in the South Pacific on the U.S.S. Wayne (APA-54). After the war he went to college at St. Cloud State, MN, graduating with a degree in teaching. He later received a Master’s Degree in Education from Macalester College in St. Paul. He taught for a year at the White Earth Indian Reservation near Mahnomen, MN and then went on to teach history in the White Bear Lake, MN public school system for 34 years before retiring in 1985. He is remembered for his kind heart, generosity, sense of humor and his steadfast support for his family. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 19, 2019, 11:00 AM at ST. ANDREW’S VILLAGE, 240 East Ave., Mahtomedi. Visitation on hour before service.
