Darlene was a very good friend to my mother ( Marian Carlson Smith) for many years. Many memories of the Garceau family and their store growing up in Vadnais Heights. She was a very kind and giving person. Gene Carlson - Pine City

I first met Darlene in 1972 when we worked together at Blue Cross. We have been friends for 47 years. I moved away from MN, but we kept in touch, getting together at least once a year. She was an inspiration to me and I will miss her very much. I was due to see her in October, but, God had other plans for her. In recent months, we talked by phone and in recent weeks I called and left loving messages for her to hear. She has been a loving friend to me and I miss her so much already. Dar, I am glad you are not suffering and I will see you on the other side some day!

I’ve known Darlene for nearly 50 years when we worked next to each other at Blue Cross. She had such a great smile and was always ready for a good laugh. She managed to keep the old Blue Cross folk together with her annual Christmas Eve phone call to say hello, see how I was, and share her news of the others in this special club. Without her, we may have all just drifted apart. She was the glue. In later years, a once a year phone call from her wasn’t enough and she and I got together more often..just the two of us. Our conversations were long and always enjoyable for both of us. It was hard to witness her rapid decline, yet she always managed it with such grace (that is so Darlene) and my last visit consisted of me talking and her taking the time to write an answer. As long as it worked, that was alright. I know she was “right with the Lord” because she told me and the last time we parted I told her I loved her and she replied she loved me too. I hugged her tight and now, thankfully, she’s at peace. A beautiful person and dear, dear friend.
