Josephine Long, (Gorton)
Age 97
Lifelong resident of White Bear Lake, MN
Mother, grandmother, great-grand mother, and friend to many. Passed away on November 22, 2020. Preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Richard O. Long, son Thomas Long, daughter-in law Jeanie Long, parents Horace and Josephine Gorton, three brothers and one sister. She is survived by children Richard O. Jr. (Dianne)., Michael (Christine), Mary Jo (Bob) Miller, Sandy (Charlie Campbell), Barb (Mike) LeVasseur, John (Cynthia), Steve (Mia), 15 grandchildren and 25 great-grand children.

Josephine loved to sing and play her guitar which was the main entertainment at family gatherings. She sang in her church choir, Schola, and the Silver Harmony Singers. She was an avid garage and rummage sale enthusiast and was better than Sears at finding and delivering items her family requested. She and Dick loved living on Bald Eagle Lake and watching the glorious sunsets where the lake provide endless entertainment for her large family.

A private family gathering will be held due to Covid-19. If you wish, memorials preferred to St. Mary’s Of The Lake Catholic Church, 4690 Bald Eagle Ave, White Bear Lake, MN 55110. The family thanks Cerenity Care in WBL for their wonderful care of Josephine.

It wasn’t until I was an adult that I realized not many families get together and sing. I may have pretended it was corny as a teen, but I cherish those times now.

In addition to all the other memories shared by the grandkids, one of my favorites specific to me was when I was playing records on the turntable when I was maybe 11, and while the Beatles’ We Can Work It Out was spinning, I heard Grandma cursing to herself in the kitchen; over what I don’t know, but that memory always makes me chuckle.

Love you, Grandma!

So many wonderful memories with my grandmother. Playing the guitar & singing, feeding the ducks at the lake, digging for worms to fish off the dock and raking whole yard together on bald eagle lake for hours! So fortunate that our kids had several years getting to know you. They are missing their “super Grammy”. We know you are in a better place. Love Kim, Mark, Kaia & Landon Kolander

Grandma Jo was kind, loving, and always made me smile. I remember she was quick to make sure her great-grandchildren had the correct number of toes and the family nose. She gave me a guitar and encouraged me to learn to play and sing. The family sing-alongs were legendary and will be missed over the holidays. I love you grandma- JoElla "Joey" Long Klubberud
