Lucille “Lucy” (Heck) Lindbom, age 71, of Hugo, Minnesota, passed away on December 24, 2020.
Lucy was born on June 3, 1949 in St. Paul, the daughter of Leslie “Pat” and Anna (Grundhauser) Heck. She grew up in St. Paul, the oldest daughter of the five Heck kids and big sister to everyone.
Family meant everything to Lucy. She married her high school sweetheart, Wayne, soon after graduating from high school, and they were blessed with two incredible daughters. They raised Kari and Jennifer in Oakdale. The family created many memorable moments at their cabin near Outing where they played cards, made beautiful crafts, and spent time on the lake. Lucy enjoyed traveling, and she and Wayne explored many parts of the country during their retirement years.
Lucy was a true people person. She cherished time with her family and friends, including the YaYa’s, her Bible study group and her golf friends. She spent many weekends quilting with her sisters and cousins, learning new patterns, catching up on life, and laughing her signature laugh. Lucy loved hosting holidays at her house, especially Christmas. Her family joked that she was the family’s Martha Stewart with elaborate meals and beautiful decorations. She inspired us all with her creative talents.
Whenever we hear an Elvis song, we will think of Lucy because Elvis was Lucy’s celebrity crush. One of her favorite pastimes was watching Elvis movies, especially Blue Hawaii, and
listening to his music. She knew the words to all of his songs, and she could probably recite the lines to all of his movies, too!
Lucy spent her career as a gracious, dependable, detail-oriented executive assistant for international business leaders. Her shorthand skills were impressive, and she used them until she retired. Lucy was beloved by her coworkers at 3M and Smith’s Medical, Inc.
Lucy had an unwavering faith in God, and she felt God’s presence in the natural world. She could often be found watching songbirds from her kitchen windows, celebrating the birds’ return to Minnesota, and remembering her late daughter, parents, and brother Bill when she saw cardinals or orioles at her bird feeders. She lovingly tended flower gardens that brimmed with wildflowers and attracted a wide variety of hummingbirds, her favorite birds.
Lucy was preceded in death by her daughter, Kari (Lindbom) Pask; parents, Anna (Grundhauser) and Leslie “Pat” Heck; and brother, William Heck. She is survived by her husband, Wayne; their daughter, Jennifer (Andy) Hammer; and their son-in-law, Ted Pask. She relished her role as Grandma to Kaitlin, Matthew, Aric, McKenna Pask, Masyn and Sydney Hammer, and her new role as Great-Grandma to Abigail Pask. Her siblings, Marvin (Judy) Heck, Rosalie (David) Sowatzke, and Deborah (Steven) Davis and their families are deeply grieving her passing.
