Passed away peacefully on Friday Mar. 12, 2021. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur (Art) Johnson, parents Roy and Ethel Lewis, sister Marjory Lewis Carter, brother-in-law Jim Carter, brother Roy Lewis Jr., sister-in-law Dorothy Lewis, and grandson Patrick Roberts. Dorothy was born May 1, 1921 in Ironton, MN. She graduated from high school in Dubuque, IA and then moved to St. Paul, MN to attend Mounds-Midway School of Nursing and was a proud graduate of the class of 1942. It was during her time at Mounds Park Hospital where she met and fell in love with Art and they were married March 15, 1943 during a blizzard at Fort Snelling.
Dorothy loved spending time with her family, traveling, hosting gatherings, going to “the farm,” baking, doing crafts of all kinds, and was passionate about her faith. Her homemade gifts of baby booties, quilts, sweaters, teddy bears, Christmas stockings, and cross-stitch, were a blessing to so many people. She made everyone around her feel loved and special. Anyone who received one of her specially picked cards, with lots of underlining and x’s and o’s, felt that love. She was an incredibly generous, kind, strong, and loving woman of faith who is now our guardian angel.
Dorothy (or Lou as she was affectionally known) is survived by son Rodney (Lillian) Johnson of Maplewood, daughters Mary Lou Johnson (Dan Schaffer) of Spokane, WA, and Katherine Roberts (Jim) of Panama City Beach, FL, 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild (and another one on the way), and many other family and dear friends.
Special thanks to the amazing staff at The Pillars Hospice Home in Oakdale. A funeral service will be live-streamed (and available for later viewing) by Honsa Family Funeral Home on March 16 at 2:00 pm. Private family Interment. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The Pillars Hospice Home of Fairview in Oakdale or Community of Grace Lutheran Church in White Bear Lake.
