Obituary for Theresa Marie Hilber

Theresa M. Hilber
Beloved sister and Aunt.
Theresa M. Hilber, 70, of Vadnais Heights, MN died unexpectedly in her home on October 10, 2022.

Theresa and her twin sister Eva were born on October 13,1951 in LaMoure, ND. The daughter of EJ (Jack) and Clarissa Hilber, she was number nine in a family of twelve children. She was baptized at Holy Rosary Church in LaMoure, ND and attended elementary school at St Anthony of Padua , Fargo, ND graduating in 1965. Theresa graduated from Mount St Benedict High School, Crookston, MN in 1969. Later, she graduated from Wahpeton School of Science with an LPN degree. She also attended Oak Hills Bible College, Bemidji, MN. Theresa was a member of First Evangelical Free Church in Maplewood for over 40 years.

Theresa and her siblings grew up in Fargo, ND. She and her siblings had a magical childhood in an era before televisions, computers and cell phones. The Hilber kids played from sunup to sundown. Bikes were used to get everywhere, the swimming pool, friend's houses and the corner grocery store. There were games of marbles, Monopoly and card games. They built leaf houses in the backyard, played school in the basement and hospital on the front porch. They even skated on an ice rink made by an older brother on the driveway. At night, it was a game of “kick the can” in the back alleys. Hours were spent swimming at the local pool and tobogganing down the slide at Dill Hall. We learned to use our imaginations and the natural world around us.

Theresa began her nursing career in Pelican Rapids, Duluth, and Miller Hospital in St Paul and then spent many years in Oncology and Maternity at United Hospital in St. Paul. Theresa also worked at New Horizons Academy in St Paul where she loved the children she cared for. Out to lunch in Pelican Rapids, MN a few years ago with her sister and a friend, a couple stopped at her table to visit. Turns out they were on vacation and saw her and stopped to tell her how much their children at the daycare loved Theresa!

Theresa also loved her many siblings, and their children and grandchildren who were the focus of her life. We will miss her frequent cards, calls and birthday songs left on our voicemails. Just about everyone she loved, received one or two bibles as gifts for a wedding, birthday or Christmas. She also loved talking on the phone, Texting and Facebook Messaging with everyone she knew. Just go back and look through your media, you will find many greetings left for you by our dear Aunt Theresa!

Theresa is preceded in death by her parents, Jack & Clarissa Hilber, her sisters Mary Jo and Patricia, brother-in-law Albert, sister-in-law Martha, and brother-in-law Gene.

Theresa is survived by her brothers Joseph, Tom, Tony, Bernard, and Richard, and her sisters, Anne, Eva, Peggy, and Jodi.
