Obituary for Francis LaFave

Fran LaFave
Of Mahtomedi, MN passed away peacefully on April 29, surrounded by his family. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Karen.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Beth; his son, Jeff; and his daughter, Aimee as well as many beloved siblings, nieces, and nephews.

Fran was born in Ishpeming, MI.  He served in the Marine Corps, did his undergraduate work at Michigan State University, and his graduate work at both St. Louis University and Indiana State University where he received a PhD.

Fran was a member of the counseling center at Illinois State University before relocating to Minnesota.  There he established a private practice:  Maplewood Psychological Associates and was the sole proprietor for 10 years. He retired in 1998.

Fran loved fishing in Lac Seul, Canada; and in Alaska.  His gardens were special to him.  He was passionate about Michigan State University basketball, Gopher Men’s Hockey, the Vikings, and the Wild.  He enjoyed hiking in the West visiting rock art sites with his son.  For the last few years, he enjoyed his daughter Aimee’s cooking, her purpose to keep her father well fed!

Fran will be remembered for the many lives he touched with his caring and compassion.

The family wishes to thank the care professionals at Home Instead and the hospice staff at accentCare hospice.  Both organizations were a major support for both Fran and Beth during his illness.

Visitation will be from 3:00 - 7:00 pm on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at Honsa Funeral Home, 2460 East County Road E, White Bear Lake.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are welcome for Second Harvest Heartland or Michigan State University.
